Ace Score averages
ACE stands for Adverse Childhood Experiences. These experiences include emotional abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional neglect, physical neglect, household domestic violence, household mental health, household substance abuse, parental separation or divorce, and a household member incarcerated. Residents at our Transitional Shelter can voluntarily complete an ACE questionnaire to help staff understand their trauma history.
Those with 4 or more ACEs are 2x-5x more likely to have a higher risk of clinical depression, substance use disorders, suicidality, diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and respiratory diseases. Children experiencing poverty are 5x more likely to experience 4 or more ACEs than those who live in financially stable households.
