Emergency Shelter

Our Emergency Shelter is located at 610 W Division and is on the West side of the shelter building. The Emergency Shelter provides a safe place to spend the night for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. The Emergency Shelter is a short-term solution for those in need of immediate housing.

THOSE WE CAN SERVE INCLUDE:

  • Single women

  • Heterosexual and homosexual married couples

  • Single-parent families, regardless of the parent's gender

  • Two-parent families, regardless of the parents' genders

OVERVIEW:

  • No paperwork required prior to check-in.

  • Check-in at 7:00 pm, check-out at 10:00 am.

  • Open daily, including holidays.

  • Staff available 24/7.

  • 26 beds across 5 rooms.

  • Beds/rooms are first come, first serve, with an option to reserve a spot by notifying staff of return.

  • Maximum stay of 30 days.

  • 30-day waiting period required before returning after a stay.

  • Staying in the Emergency Shelter may expedite the transition to the Transitional Shelter.

Transitional Shelter

Our Transitional Shelter is located at 610 W Division and is on the North side of the shelter building. The Transitional Shelter provides safe and long-term housing for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Those seeking shelter can apply online below or in person at our Service Center.

Those we serve include:

  • Single women

  • Heterosexual and homosexual married couples

  • Single-parent families, regardless of the parent's gender

  • Two-parent families, regardless of the parents' genders

Overview:

  • Residents are assigned a Case Manager.

  • Residents and Case Managers work together to create individualized case plans that focus on self-sufficiency.

  • Stay up to nine months.

  • 78 beds across 28 rooms.

  • Access to Mental Health Matters, a service that provides therapy to those in need.

  • Time commitment of 40 hours a week to begin working on their life-changing plan to reach their true potential. This commitment may include:

    • Attending classes that teach financial responsibility, parenting, problem solving, coping skills, job hunting techniques, and more;

    • Meeting with Case Managers to set goals and gauge progress;

    • Reducing personal debt and improve savings;

    • Enhancing the lives of others through community service;

    • Assisting with meal preparation for fellow residents;

    • Cleaning and site maintenance chores; and

    • Pursuing employment.

  • Non-participation may lead to loss of services.

Community Assistance

Our Community Assistance program is located in our Service Center at 615 W 1st Street. The Community Assistance program is not limited to Hope Harbor residents. It is open to all in our community.

Those we serve:

  • Everyone and anyone!

Overview:

  • Donations are accepted at the Service Center during business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

  • After-hours donations can be arranged by calling Direct Care Shelter Staff at (308) 384-4634

  • Receive and distribute donated goods to those in need through the program.

  • Provide items and other services through funding and monetary donations.

Items provided:

  • Food boxes

  • Hygiene items

  • Baby formula

  • Diapers

  • Furniture

  • Household items

Services Provided:

  • Referrals

  • Budgeting assistance

  • Transportation assistance

  • Gas vouchers

  • Bus vouchers
