Success Stories

A Poem: Thank You CHRC

I was down and completely out
There was nothing in life I was sure about
I'd gotten laid off - worked nine months in two years
I was depressed, broke and cried out in tears

So, I sold all my things, well, all that I could
To leave my hometown to find work, I was sure I would
My car broke down along the way
The final time in Grand Island, a dreadful day

I was out of money, options, and hope
I was literally at the end of my rope
I had two hours left in my motel room
My heart, mind, and soul were drowning in doom

I had never imagined this could happen to me
I had always worked and lived comfortably
Now, here I sat, looking for the page in the phonebook for
shelters at 50 years of age

The first place didn't answer, next was CHRC
Where a lady named TaLana said, "Please, come see me"
She managed my case, I had warm room and board
For CHRC - I thank our Dear Lord

I applied for jobs - every one I could do
My hope was returning and I'd find one, I knew
When I finally did, HUD came through too
I had a job, and an apartment - my future started anew

CHRC and their wonderful staff
Gave joy back to me - I smile - I laugh
They showed me the avenues "I" needed to take
And gave me support for the future "Id" make

Their encouragement, kindness, and generosity
Got me back on my feet and really showed me
That there is "assistance" for those in need
If you're willing to work for it - they'll help plant the seed
