General Summary:   Ensure proper care and treatment of residents.  Assist with orientation of newer residents and provide support of residents who have already been acclimated to Hope Harbor Shelter services.  There is a particular emphasis placed upon ensuring the physical safety of the facility for residents, staff, volunteers, and visitors. 

Qualifications:

  • Pass a complete series of background checks.

  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED, although an Associate’s Degree in a Human Services or related field is preferred.

  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification, or the ability to obtain these within thirty (30) days of being hired.

  • Be capable of accurately following written and verbal instructions.

  • Possess the ability to communicate effectively; orally, typed, and written.

  • Ability to be reliable and punctual.

  • Ability to work with persons in need in a compassionate and dignified manner.

  • Ability to maintain resident, staff, and volunteer confidentiality.

  • Ability to de-escalate situations that may arise between residents

  • Must be able to work independently with a minimum amount of supervision.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complete documentation including incident reports, daily activity logs; in an accurate and timely manner.

  • Attend staff meetings and trainings.

  • Maintain CPR/First Aid Certification

  • Ensure confidentiality of residents, staff, and volunteers.

  • Assist with resident orientation to the program.

  • Collect urinalysis specimens and facilitate testing with a Breathalyzer as assigned, as needed.

  • Monitor the resident sign in/sign out sheet.

  • Perform curfew checks.

  • Walk through the entire building once an hour to monitor the physical safety of the facility in regards to danger including but not limited to unauthorized visitors, residents under the influence of drugs/and or alcohol, fires, maintenance concerns, violence, etc.

  • Perform room checks for cleanliness.

  • Conduct Warrant Checks with the Grand Island Police Department.

  • Provide residents with conflict resolution and problem solving skills

  • Evaluate and document client daily chore completions.

  • Be responsible for tracking donations received in the evenings and/or weekends.

  • Provide Administrative Assistant with completed donation sheets.

  • Provide Case Managers a Nightly Activity Report on a daily basis.

  • Provide the Emergency Services Coordinator with the necessary intake paperwork and updates for current Emergency Shelter residents on a daily basis.

  • Monitor and rotate the produce as needed.

  • Allow access to residents prescription medications; noting this on Nightly Activity Report.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Coordinates with donation volunteers. Coordinate with regular donors (produce, bread, etc), and ensure there is space available to receive donations. Work with Service Coordinator to coordinate volunteers available to assist with donations.   Budget   Remains aware food & shelter supply budget and is able to determine appropriate distribution of funds.   Kitchen Supervision   Completes menu/recipe planning for Transitional Shelter, updates needs list, pulls food, assists to organize pantry, freezers, refrigerators. Responsible for grocery shopping, picking up milk from donors, and planning for other necessary food donations. This includes coordinating purchases with the Office Manager.   Confidentiality   Ensure confidentiality of residents, staff and volunteers.
